MAJID BEKKAS

Rocked between desert music and traditional rhythms from his native Zagora, and initiated at a very young age by the Maâlem (musical teacher) Ba Houmane, the artist Majid BEKKAS is an author, composer and multi-instrumentalist performer, particularly virtuoso with his guembri (traditional Moroccan bass). A professional artist since 1974, he has chosen as his mission to contribute to the conservation and bring the mystical and traditional Gnaoa music to the world through fine fusions with more popular styles such as Blues, Jazz or Soul, inventing a melodic and rooted "African Gnaoa Blues".

To produce his extensive discography Majid BEKKAS has collaborated with great musicians such as Archie Shepp, Louis Sclavis, Flavio Boltro, Klaus Doldinger, Juan Carmona, Pedro Soler, Flavio Boltro, Lionel Haas etc.; He has recorded in the main studios in Europe and made audiences around the world vibrate with the bass of his guembri.

Mixing or alternating the transmission of centuries of traditional Maghrebi music with sonic genius that shares the magic of the Gnaoa trance and transports audiences above any cultural consideration; Majid BEKKAS delivers a very vivid and authentic sample of Africa's incredible intangible heritage.
